One of my favourite creative things to do is turn lyrics, poetry and quotes into visual works of art. Here, I took a beautiful quote from Fabienne Fredrickson about learning how to be patient with the seeds you plant in life and illustrated it to add even more meaning. I then animated the illustration to enhance the meaning of the quote.

PROCESS

I wanted to illustrate the stages a plant goes through as it grows. The specific plant I chose is a fig tree, as figs and their leaves represent abundance, life, wisdom, and enlightenment. I experimented with colour to divide the different stages into sections of the tree. I added one ripe, open fig at the end as the focal point and a reward for witnessing the plant’s journey unfold. I used a bold typeface and light-coloured background in the beginning stages but realized they both distracted from the illustration rather than complemented it. I changed the background to a deep grey shade and the text to a delicate serif typeface. I also added bees, as they play a key role in the growth of figs, a symbol of the importance of working together.
