Awakening the Skies is a story of a young man named Chiyo, who must embrace his destiny to tame a
storm dragon seeking revenge.
To create a poster for this film, I used a technique called Photobashing to create
one cohesive scene out of multiple images

PROCESS

I began by sketching out a few ideas and writing the film synopsis. I ended up enlisting my boyfriend, an enjoyer of Japanese media, to help me develop the plot and to be my model. I knew I wanted to create a moody and dramatic poster that would appeal to lovers of the sci-fi genre and Japanese influences. I created the dragon from images of clouds, as well as cloud-shaped brushes. I painted highlights and shadows on the subject’s arm and made the Samurai sword glow like lightning. I created a background with a mountain and a small village in the middle, which is seen up in flames. The wordmark title was created to resemble the glowing metal of the sword and the heat of the flames in the scene. I also created a Funko Pop! inspired dragon figurine and a matching
keychain as movie merchandise.
