Cinnamon Toast and the End of the World is my favourite novel, written by Canadian author Janet E. Cameron, which follows Stephen Shulevitz as he navigates love and high school in 1980s Nova Scotia. The original two covers are designed well, but I had an entirely different idea in mind from the moment I picked up the novel.

PROCESS
This novel mentions cinnamon toast as a comforting and nostalgic snack that is important to the main character. It was, of course, evident to me that I had to create a cinnamon-toast font for this project, as it was the most difficult - yet tasty - choice. I spent an afternoon carving out letters from bread and making toast at different temperatures to create the main words of the long title. I then used a q-tip to write through piles of cinnamon for the conjunctions and articles. I arranged the letters on a white backdrop, making sure to put the burnt pieces near ‘the End of the World’. After taking 100 photos of the arrangement, just in case, I then ate the project with my family.
