The subject matter for this project is HotWheels, an American brand of scale model cars by Mattel in 1968. The particular HotWheels car seen here is the Muscle Mania series 70’ Chevelle SS, which made a perfect subject for a complex, realistic digital illustration and exciting infographic.

PROCESS
Having never done a realistic illustration in Adobe Illustrator before, this car was a tough challenge as the subject. However, its smooth, curved body was a great introduction to using gradient meshes. Most of this illustration was created with gradient meshes and Illustrator brushes, which greatly tested the limits of my laptop’s capabilities. The infographic uses classic HotWheels colouring and car-related textures. The specs in the infographic are far from accurate, as this car was not a wildly popular model in the HotWheels collection, but are displayed in a classic HotWheels style, complete with a tire-shaped pie graph.
